The word illness covers many areas of life depending on whom you talk to and their qualifications &/or perspective of life.

It is sometimes used to generalise symptoms or explanations of various conditions and symptoms. 

It can be described as:

A condition in which the body or mind is harmed because an organ or part is unable to work as it usually does.

A disease of the body or mind

A state of being ill
