Parenting

This is the process of raising children and providing them with protection and care in order to ensure their healthy development into adulthood.

There has been a longstanding assumption that parents assert a direct and powerful influence on their children through the process of socialisation and cultural beliefs.

This means if children turn out well it's to the parent’s credit and if the children turnout badly, is the parents fault.

In any case, numerous studies have suggested that the best adjusted children are reared by parents who find a way to combine warmth and sensitivity with clear behavioural expectations.

Many Parents find the Four C's to be very helpful:

  • Care (showing acceptance and affection)
  • Consistency (maintaining a stable environment)
  • Choices (allowing the child to develop autonomy)
  • Consequences (applying repercussions of choices, whether positive or negative)

Practises of good parents
